De Witt Klns Flooded
January 2014

The continuous heavy rainfall during the early part of the year brought the water table up and the standard gauge railway sidings serving the De Witt Kilns were soon inundated.

These pictures were taken in early January before the worst of the rain had fallen.

By the beginning of Febriary, the water had risen even further and covered most of the area. As can be seen it had come within a foot or so of the top of the loading bay making the whole area more look like a canal wharf than a railway. We couldn't find anyone who would lend us a narrow-boat. The Arun Chalk Barge is kept in Cheshire!
