Railway Gala Weekend

Sat/Sun 14/15 July 2018

Our Rail Gala this year will feature an intensive passenger and industrial train service on the 2 foot gauge railway. Our resident steam locos, Peter (WB2067/1918) and Polar Bear (WB1781/1905) will both be in steam.

This year we celebrate Peter's centenary; please come and join the party. There will be cake (on a first come first served basis! Get in quick if you want some) which will be served after the loco cavalcade at 15:00. The celebrations will be tinged with a little sadness because this is the last year that Peter will be used for the foreseeable future as the boiler certificate expires early in 2019. A couple of (hopefully) short speeches will then be made to launch our fundraiser to assist with the costs of the repairs that are required.

Model Railway Exhibition

The model railway exhibition will showcase layouts in a variety of scales and gauges along a light, industrial and narrow gauge railway theme backed up by traders and various railway societies. The Museum entrance fee includes access to all the other exhibits on site so there should be something for everybody.

Future Gala Weekends - Planned Dates

We are checking local event calendars for next year and 2020 before fixing any dates beyond 2018. We will publicise them as soon as we have something to confirm. Provisionally, the 2019 event will take place on 13/14 July.

If you would like to show off your layout, promote your society or come and sell things at our Gala event (railway and transport related please!) then please get in touch. (Click here to contact us) Each year we welcome several new exhibitors and many of them become regular participants in our show.
