Motor Rail Simplex MR11001 overhaul

Ongoing since last November

The overhaul of the 3 cylinder Dorman engine is proving anything but simple.

Roger Richards (hiding) and Chris Hollis during one of the abortive attempts to remove the cylinder liners.

They still managed to keep smiling. Well working at Amberley beats therapy! In the end the block had to be sent away for a more thorough engineering solution to be applied to the problem. Thanks to James Pavey for arranging this.

Meanwhile the chassis has been moved to the back of the loco shed where, once the weather warms up, it will be cleaned, degreased and repainted.

The "Not for Service" notice seems superfluous, to be honest.

Fast forward to October and the chassis/frame repaint has been more or less completed. The opportunity then arose for it to be moved onto the high level road in the workshop so that the paint brush could be applied to the underside.

Since then rebuilding of the brake system, including air pipes, has been taking place in preparation for the refitting of the engine which is almost ready.
